Improving the quality of life with educational and recreational opportunities for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

The Model System Knowledge and Translation Center (MSKTC) is a national center that helps facilitate the knowledge translation process to make research meaningful to those with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Burn Injury. This library is home to factsheets, podcasts, videos, and comics to describe different areas affected by spinal cord injury.

People with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) are living longer. As a result, they may need to find ways to promote and maintain their health throughout their lives. For people with an SCI, successful aging involves taking care of physical, emotional, and social health; maintaining as much independence as possible; and being open to changing how to do things when old strategies don’t seem to work anymore. People who engage in self-care and in their community, maintain a healthy lifestyle, have a positive outlook, and regularly visit their doctors or SCI specialists are more likely to age successfully.

We highly recommend you check out MSKTC and its library of spinal cord injury care topics.  You can check out more information on aging at https://msktc.org/sci/factsheets/aging-and-sci.
