Improving the quality of life with educational and recreational opportunities for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Megan Hammond, Chapter President

I have already been hard at work in 2023.  The Chapter had many generous donations in 2022, and have started giving them away!  I have already placed a power wheelchair, portable ramp, bed rail, closed system catheters, and manual wheelchair with new owners.  We still have another manual wheelchair, 6 different transfer boards, and other “things” ready for new homes.  Check out our website to find out what we have in our donation closet.  And, if you have gently used medical equipment that you no longer use, email us at unitedspinalneo@gmail.com.

But I need your help to keep this Chapter running.

In order to continue serving Northeast Ohio and even consider expanding our services, we have a few “positions” that need to be filled.  These positions are all volunteer positions, as we do not have the finances (at this time) to hire anyone as an employee.  The future of our chapter depends on the help we have and once we have some help, we can look into grant options for funding.

Here is what we are looking for:

Equipment Manager – Manages storage unit and all equipment and/or donations owned/received by the chapter.  This position requires someone to meet at the Chapter’s storage unit in Parma, OH to accept/place equipment, keep up with necessary paperwork, and maintain the chapter’s equipment.

Social Events Coordinator – This position will be the lead for all our events.  Some tasks include hosting our virtual monthly meetings, leading our event planning committee meetings, being the host at our fundraisers, and distributing tickets in our community event ticket program.

Social Media Coordinator – Create and plan our social media content, respond to comments/messages, and create our email newsletters.

Chapter Advocacy Coordinator – attend virtual events with United Spinal Association (national); boost advocacy efforts locally

Technology Specialist – maintaining our website and updating content

Board Members – attend board meetings and help make decisions for the chapter’s future

I can’t do this alone.  Please reach out to unitedspinalneo@gmail.com with any interest, big or small! If none of these things interest you, but you still want to help, reach out to us anyway! I’m sure we can utilize your strengths and interests to serve Northeast Ohio.

We will continue to host virtual monthly meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month.  Our next meeting is March 20th we will have More Than Walking present their peer mentoring structure and programing.  Check out www.usaneo.org/calendar for all the meeting dates and topics.  You will find all the registration links on our website.

We are looking forward to adding to our leadership and bringing you great events and services in 2023.
