United Spinal Association of Northeast Ohio > BLOG > Connections Newsletter Article > MSKTC Resource: Pressure Relief Techniques

The Model System Knowledge and Translation Center (MSKTC) is a national center that helps facilitate the knowledge translation process to make research meaningful to those with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Burn Injury. In previous articles, we have featured the Factsheets on Autonomic Dysreflexia, Managing Pain, Wheelchair Information, and more.  We have highlighted the Pressure Injury Prevention resources in the past and wanted to shine a light on the Pressure Relief Techniques resources.

The pressure relief technique you use will depend on your level of injury, the type of wheelchair you use, and how much movement and strength you have in your arms and shoulders. The way you relieve pressure ultimately depends on you and your lifestyle.

MSKTC outlines a few techniques for relieving pressure while in your wheelchair, along with tips on practicing a given technique.  We highly recommend you check out this guide and their library of spinal cord injury care factsheets.  You can check them out at https://msktc.org/sci/factsheets/how-do-pressure-reliefs-weight-shifts
